Breast Cancer Screening

Breast Cancer Screening at HealthWest Medical & Specialist Centre

Early detection saves lives.

Regular breast cancer screening is crucial for women’s health. At HealthWest Medical & Specialist Centre, we encourage all women over 50, and select women from the age of 40, to undergo a breast screen every two years.

What is breast cancer screening?

Breast cancer screening involves a mammogram, a low-dose X-ray of the breast. This can be arranged through Breastscreen Victoria or many radiology clinics with a referral from your GP.

Am I at increased risk?

Discussing your personal risk factors with your GP is essential. While most women are considered standard risk, certain factors can increase your risk. Understanding your risk level helps determine the appropriate screening frequency and any additional recommended checks.

Know Your Breasts

Regular self-examination is another important tool for early detection. Become familiar with the look and feel of your breasts, and report any changes to your doctor promptly.
